Departments and Organizations

Several departments and organizations help and support International Medical Graduates.

The NS Department of Health & Wellness (DHW):

Supports programs and services promoting health and treating illnesses.

Medical Services Insurance (MSI):

Is the provincial insurance plan for medical services.

The Nova Scotia Pharmacare Programs

are public drug plans to help cover the cost of prescribed drugs and devices. The Nova Scotia Government and Nova Scotia Health list job opportunities for physicians here.

Nova Scotia Health (NSH):

Provides health services to Nova Scotians. It also gives specialized services to people living in NS, NB, PEI, Newfoundland, and Labrador 

Dalhousie University

Has the only medical school in the Maritime provinces. The university also provides postgraduate (residency) programs.

The Dalhousie University Global Health Office:

Guides IMGs in the Medical Clerkship Program.

Izaak Walton Killam (IWK) Health Center:

Provides similar services to women, children, and youth.

College of Physicians and Surgeon of Nova Scotia (CPSNS):

Governs and regulates the medical profession in accordance with the Medical Act.

Doctors Nova Scotia

Doctors Nova Scotia (DNS) is the professional association for physicians and is a division of the Canadian Medical Association (CMA).

Immigrant Services Association of Nova Scotia (ISANS):

Immigrant Services Association of Nova Scotia (ISANS) provides a wide range of services for immigrants. The International Medical Graduates Bridging Program supports IMGs to navigate the licensure pathway.
